Stinging Nettle (Laportea canadensis)


        Stinging Nettle grows up to four feet tall. It is a native, perennial wildflower. Its flowers are small, light green, growing in small clusters arranged in panicles, arising from the leaf axils. The leaves are large, up to 20 inches long and seven inches wide, lance-shaped with smooth margins and distinct veins. The largest leaves appear at the bottom of the plant and become smaller towards the top. It grows in open woodlands with moist rich soils and along streams and drainages. (SF)
