Common Sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale)















     Common Sneezeweed is a native, perennial wildflower in Wisconsin. It grows three to five feet tall.  The flower heads are one to two inches wide with 10 to 15 fan-shaped petals, each tipped with three lobes. The protruding ball-like center of the flower is yellow green. The plant has up to 100 flower heads and many lance-shaped, stalkless leaves that are up to two inches wide and six inches long.  It grows in moist clay soils in open sun, often along river or steam banks.
